Erna Hecey is thrilled to announce the opening of a new space located in the new Hamilius block in Luxembourg City Centre. Built by Foster + Partners in 2019, the architectural project massively stimulated this central part of the city. Neighboring cultural institutions, it is two steps away from the Adolphe bridge that spans the spectacular Petrusse valley and links the city centre to the quartier downtown.
Intended as an extension of Hecey's original gallery located since 2018 in her appartment in the Limpertsberg neighborhood, these two new spaces of 70m2 and 100m2 will invite a larger public of curious passers-by, amateurs and specialists alike, to enter the gallery walls. "This new project is an opportunity to experience and show art in a different way following lockdown and the intimacy of my appartment, by being in the city-center, on rue Aldringen, a simultaneously calm yet very central street. In parallel, the apartment will remain open to visitors by appointment, as usual," explains Erna Hecey.
The space will be inaugurated at the beginning of July 2021 with an exhibition by Eugénie Paultre entitled Matter of Life. Large paintings Paultre created during a residency in the English countryside in 2018-19 will be revealed, while a second more orchestrated space will present small paintings made over the past ten years alongside books by the artist-poet. This new space also intends to host a series of events and conferences around the exhibition that will take place throughout summer.
