Jeff Weber
Jeff Weber (lives and works in New York and Berlin) develops a photographic practice that is experimental in a rigorous sense: it revolves around what he refers to as his attempt to create a personal epistemology, by exploring the contemporary conditions of the image.
The subsequent book An Attempt At A Personal Epistemology (Roma Publications, 2018) is the result of his longterm project Kunsthalle Leipzig. Established by Weber in 2012, the institution functioned as an extension of his photographic practice as well as a conceptual frame to invite others to actively participate. Here, the collaborative dimensions of Weber's practice explore the significance of these encounters with alterity and, in this sense, the essentially social dimension of photography as an epistemological principle. Rather than an isolated object, the photographic image is enmeshed in and emerges as a nodal point within a complex of social relations - interpersonal, artistic, material - and it is this set of relations that are crystallised in the image.
Jeff Weber holds a diploma (2010) from the La Cambre Art School in Brussels. In 2012, he was a resident at Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, and more recently at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 2020-21. Weber's work has been shown internationally including at the De Appel Arts Center, Amsterdam; the Casino-Forum d'Art Contemporain, Luxembourg; Roots and Culture Contemporary Art Center, Chicago; the Interfood-Vitrine, Aachen; the Fotomuseum Winterthur; lxhxb, Eindhoven; Erna Hecey Gallery, Luxembourg and Carré d'Art-Musée d'art contemporain de Nîmes, France. He organized and curated numerous events, lectures, and projects at Kunsthalle Leipzig between 2014-2017. In 2022 he participated in Anthology Film <i>Paul's book</i> (but <i>the Jones' house</i>).">Archives' Imageless Films, Part 3 screening program with his works Untitled (Neural Network, nn_oxb_1) and Sequences I-IV. His exhibition Image Storage Containers is currently represented in the Centre National de l'Audiovisuel (CNA) in Dudelange.
