EXHIBITION THROUGH 15TH OCTOBER 2016
A World Not Ours reflects on the issue of the refugee crisis and forced migration on one of the Greek islands that was at the epicentre of the humanitarian tragedy that broke out in 2015. The exhibition brings together a group of artists, photographers, filmmakers and activists whose work is the result of an in-depth and long-term engagement with the issue, transcending one-sided and standardised media representations of the crisis, and acknowledging the complex roots of one of the most pressing issues of our time.
Róza El-Hassan born in 1966 of Hungarian-Syrian parentage in Budapest, where she is currently living.
She has gradually become an artist with deep social commitment. Witnessing human disasters in the Balkans and in Syria, she has worked with and for the most vulnerable (refugees, Roma communities), reawakening ancient crafts and techniques to their advantage and initiated several projects in the field of mediation and art. Artistic, social and political actions are inextricably linked for her. Her extensive graphical and sculptural works, were shown at various international institutions among others at the Secession, Vienna (2000), Drawing Center, NY (2003) Mu¨csarnok/Kunsthalle, Budapest (2006) and Kunstmuseum Basel (2012) along with videos, installations and performance. Roza El Hassan is also active as a curator and blogger.
